Youth Outreach Program
Mission:
The CIU Youth Club will engage
Appalachian youth in international affairs/issues during CIU programs for
visiting international professionals
Goals
and Objective: To promote among area
youth greater international understanding, a desire to pursue the study of world
languages and cultures and international studies that are complemented by study
abroad, and a desire to pursue careers in international affairs, business,
trade, and diplomacy.
CIU
Youth Club Membership Information: Students
recommended for membership by high school principals/teachers/school club
advisors/counselors and the Superintendents of the local Boards of Education.
Students
must demonstrate leadership qualities, be members of student government, and
participate in international activities promoted by area schools
The
CIU Youth Club membership will be limited to 15-20 students. There are no CIU
Youth Club membership dues.
CIU
Youth Club will be organized as a self operating activity with the CIU Board of
Directors serving as advisors.
Activities:
The CIU Youth Club will meet at least
once a month with a representative of the Board present to stimulate the
discussion about international events, trips, trivia games; meet the CIU’s
visiting international professionals; and engage in fund raisers and help with
donations to raise money for scholarships for study abroad/short fact-finding
trips abroad as well as club activities.
Recognition of CIU Youth Club Members: After one year of participation CIU Youth Club Members will receive a certificate and an article about them will be published in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.
